Two Years later and virtually the anniversity of the earlier mid-late 60s shorts

 Well! It's been a few years..anyhoo, welcome to 2023 and 2024. New dog for me, new weird fantasy like Univ.  M3Gan, Disney/Pixar's INSIDE OUT 2, And a new CLOKEY post!

Everyone knows the timeline of the earlier, dot eyes, 60s Gumby era, i.e.,post-1950s, around 9-12 years old. But exactly WHEN did the flat, Mickey Mouse eyed version,appear?

I.E.,after 1957's "THE ZOOPS" & "EV EN STEVENS." BTW with this REGULAR posts on ALL of my blogs will appear.. But what about later? It seems 1964 was when SCROOGE LOOSE and RAIN FOR ROO (with King Ott and Cadwaddidur(sp?)) appeared.with the nasty Blockheads taking a siesta, then l;ater, possibly with A HAIR-RAISING ADVENTURE given the animation behind open titles,a into device held over from HIDDEN VALLEY,LAWN PARTY and some others, some time in 1964, the newer "boomer generationss's "(yours truly included!) got all these later 1960s Gumby's,with Gumby,me, then Prickle,Goo, and Prof.Kapp from AHRH with the return of the nasty Blockheads around then, then the one with the "bubblegum" song mis-quoted in my blog title with the checkerboard open (song written by Pete Kleinow, co-writer/co-director and theme musicv and the novelty(?) latin classic rock band Flying Burrito Brothers).

From around 1965-66 (MISSILE BIRDS','1966' copyright date is exclusive to it;,there are "non-dated", and the numerous 1967 copyright ones, led the way to the remainder of them (till those bland 1980s ones.We don't talk about these..:-))

Many of the restorations actually do a helluva really good job with actual post-1950s copyright..the 1956 (c) was often put on too many, like Peanuts merch getting the character debuts (1950 for Charlie Brown,etc.though Snoopy, though dating to 1950 as well, gets 1958). Likewise the way that many Hanna-Barbera episodes of their earlier 60s prime times getting eventually identical credits no matter what.

Apparently, Prickle, Goo and those others with them began in the mid-60s.

Synopsis:Gumby's a computer whiz bang whose "wish granting" device gives more than the wishers (himself included) ever bargained for.

Sometimes, in the late 1960s many shows started becoming stale. Gumby may sometimes have been among them, but generally it still remained quite
surprsingly good and creative. This episode's no exception.
How many times have YOU heard that "if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself".
Well, this almost touches on that. In a way.
Gumby has invented a "progessive type" computer with keyboard, which, when TYPED, can produce JUST the
right command. For instance. Vanilla milkshake? Gumby types and a distorted voice (kinda lika a Siri, Clokey-style, or a Scarlett Johanssen-less "Samantha" a la Spike Jonze's "Her") comes up to repeat it
and "ta-daaa" there it is! Rowboat? No problemo. Gumby types up the order (to coin a phrase-ahem) and it appears.
All on a special stage.
The story has all four of the late 60s/80s show principals, Gumby, Pokey, Goo and Prickle. First Gumby wants something, roast turkey, after which Pokey says, "Yum Yum"
Roast tukey appears. Nothing wrong here but Gumby decides to add something else, a PIANO
It shows up on the stage.
But then the piano comes to life itself, doing a dance.
Goo:"It's playing by ITSELF".
Prickle: "Huh. A SMART aleck PIANO" Next, please...Prickle comes up, places his order, for a train,and hey, hey, Gumby types
away.  The camera then cuts to a scene where the computer's got it down, reciting it. "Coming right up". The soundtracks play a few familiar 60s stock cues.The train starts taking off, so Gumby cancels/


Goo finally makes a wish,a kitty, which Gumby then types. Computer distorted voice: "One....kitty....meow...coming right up".
But the computer produces a roaring tiger, so Gumby then types in "Cage",("Cage" says the computer).





ThenPrickle suggests a robot, but no sooner does he get the order
repeated by his marvellous machine than the robot comes over and types
too much so that Gumby takes a sledgehammer and smashes BOTH the robot and the MACHINE..
The distorted sounding machine has a good final moment here:"Work work work work" as the robot types a ltitle too much
so that the room is almost magically crowded with unwanted stuff.


Goo:"tsk.."
Pokey:"If you want something done RIGHT...
Prickle:"You gotta do it yourself".
The machine agrees.
End.
This had some definite use of fade ins to depict the realising of the four friends wishes, which must have involved special matte-ing process over the stop motion.

Music cues still rather hard to identify due to this beign late 60s.

Usually, an episode of this original show doesn't use a lot of variaitons on gags, thus, you don't see a lot of the
sports spoofs like other franchises [Porky Pig in Friz Freleng's 1940 "Porky's Baseball Broadcast", Yogi Bear in Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera's 1959 "Rah Rah Bear", and all the
Goofy shorts]. Usually, a more, linear [for lack of a better term] style of narrative was used throughout the series's duration..

However, this is an example...At the 1967 Gumbasia ball game...Gumby, Pokey, Prickle, Goo, professor Kapp, and the Blockheads, taking a leaf from the
classic Disney Goofy Jack Kinney shorts of the 40s and 50s like "Hockey Homicide", etc ., with dopplegangers of them, are on two opposing teams with each other.

Sufficient sporting music is played, including a bed from the open of the show's "The Rodeo King". It's rather repetivie to detial, but just the expected baseball and clay gags. Gumby gets a baseball while Pokey slides. A field set up for this is the background for this..

Prof.Kapp, Prickle, and Goo are in tuis..though not Nopey, Dr.Zveegee [would be a manager for the Blockheads], or the Moon Boggles or the others, a concept that WAS reivisted ten years later in 1970s in Hanna-Barbera's low point [one of too many during this and the ensuing decade ahead] "Scooby Doo's All Star Laffalympics", where various allstar HB characters..

BTW Does ANYBODY know the source for at least SOME of these 1967-68 cues? They may have appeared on two of the "S"'s : Selected Sound or Sonoton, but it escapes me.

The gimmick of many "Blockhead characters" recalls on the other side of good, Goofy in many classic 1940s-1950s Disney sports shorts.
